The BIG Picture!

A Techtite Weekly Feature

[...back, because you demanded it! -Ed.]

The "Big Picture" for the second week of November, 2003 is:

"It's Over, Baby...Hold Me!"

(Halo, PC version, 2003, 1024x768 image)

Halo was the jewel in X-Box's crown, when released as one of the system's "launch games" in 2001. However, among all the hype was this one amusing rumor: complete the game in the most difficult "Legendary" mode, and you'd see an extended ending. How worth it was the extension...? Well, that's worth a "Big Picture," isn't it?

The picture this week is a montage of said extended ending, revealed here thanks to the PC version's ease of screen capture. As the nuclear reactor you activated begins to explode, one last pair of warriors are still fighting. One happens to be the Colonel seen throughout the game; nice to see he's still alive and well, even if not for long. He and his opponent stop fighting long enough to see the beginning of the command ship's nuclear meltdown. The Colonel then turns to his ex-opponent and says, "It's over baby...hold me!" and they hug in a shot that is not as poignant as it is darkly humorous.

So, is it worth it to fight past "Legendary mode" to see this ending? That's up to you to decide, though consider: you don't have to fight throughout Legendary mode to see it. Just start a "Legendary" game beginning in the final chapter, and you'll see this ending just the same. Good luck...
