The BIG Picture!

A Techtite Weekly Feature

[...back, because you demanded it! -Ed.]

The "Big Picture" for the Third Week of August, 2004 is:

"The Experiment Revealed"

(Doom 3, 2004, 1024x768 image)

Doom 3 has a lot of cool moments. This --the third of four "Big Pictures" of the game, this month-- is one of them. Here, one of the few still remaining scientists reveals all the gory (no joke) details of what is happening around here. I'll keep the spoilers at bay, aside from saying that once you meet him, things only get more intense.

The purpose of this Big Picture, among other things, is to show the exquisite detail of the larger computer monitors seen throughout the game. Note that even the medium-sized monitor beyond the character's head can be read clearly. This is a trait that even "Normal" graphics mode can provide (not just "Ultra"). Hence the purpose of the picture.

Also note that had you been in a spot where no survivors are present, at times you can even use the computers. Be sure to try and click on anything that looks clickable. At one point I came across a medical lab where a computer's audio diary was still playing. Clicking on no less than half a dozen buttons on this still-working, in-game computer reveals a whole hierarchy of menus, including a repeat of the audio log, and personal e-mails. It's one of many realistic elements of this cool game.
