The BIG Picture!

A Techtite Weekly Feature

[...back, because you demanded it! -Ed.]

The "Big Picture" for the first (Full) week of January, 2004 is:

"What a motley crew!"

Beyond Good & Evil has one of those overdone yet superior story elements I love; when a rag-tag gang of rebels --with little or no chance of doing so-- succeed in their fight against the forces of evil against them. Here's a shot of four of such "rebels" from this game, which I gave a rave review a few weeks back. They include a former soldier for the bad guys turned good (far left), Jade (the lead character), the rebel's head mechanic, and the rebel's head communicator (she's the one who will give you all the information bytes you need, level to level).

This alludes to one aspect of this game that I loved; very few characters are generic NPCs. Very rarely do you look at the guy in charge of the newsstand on the street and ask, "Didn't I just see that guy in the bar, and for that matter, down the nearby street...?" Just about every character you meet here --aside from the helmeted soldier troup you fight against-- are unique characters. As I said before: great game. Try it out!
