Dots

What
ARE "Dots" and "Slashes"...?
In the TV world
there's "cheers and jeers." In the movie world there's
"thumbs up" and "thumbs down." Well, here in
cyberspace, there are (...) dots and (/) slashes. Such are
the icons for this web site's own quickie "thumbs up" and
"thumbs down" list, which is added to whenever the latest
entertainment news requires it. What news
bytes hit their mark, and which should be slashed? Here are the latest of
them.

Winter/Early 2007
Want Something
Praised or, well..."slashed"...? Send a note, and
we'll add it to the list!
Slash : To
that inane GAP commercial for the "boyfriend pants." The idea is that a
girl can go buy boy's pants if they want to. Well yeah, no duh there
Sherlock. Go into the Men's department and buy a freaking pair of men's
slacks if you like the color "beige" so much. Oh no, see; these pants
are "different"...! How different? Well, you see, GAP was overstocked
with beige slacks, so they changed....the name. We are almost tempted to
give kudos to a brilliant sales strategy. If only we weren't so annoyed
with the Ethyl-Merman song playing during the insipidly inane idiocy of
an advertisement for these stupid beige pants. Oh; and no, dear, you
don't wear the pants "better" than the man. Don't
buy men's pants because you think it's "liberating" to wear men's pants.
That's just stupid. Buy clothes you want to wear. That's
"liberation," girl.
DOT
: To Lost learning from
past mistakes. It is said that the "long hiatus" plan was a stupid idea,
the producers and ABC know it, and that won't happen again. Yet what a
return to the series it was, with the first glimpse at the back story of
one of the so-called "Others," one of the Others shooting "another"
other, as it were, and Kate and Sawyer well on their way back to the
beach we've spent way too much time away from by now. As for new
locations; who needs them? Sure the hatch is gone, but hey; that new
hatch they found looked pretty cool. So did that hatch that has since
been long abandoned by the Others. Either location could be made into
the new "base" for our favorite Losties. Make it so!
Slash : To
Heroes not learning from Lost's
mistakes. Which is to say; it's about to go on hiatus, from March 5th
all the way until mid April. That just sucks. "Slash," indeed. It's
enough for us to slash the series upon its return straight to our Tivo,
when we'll watch it...."whenever." Okay, yeah; we'll probably watch it
live anyway, just because we're so hooked. The idea of a hiatus still
sucks though. Who first came up with this idiotic idea?
Slash : To
that stupid Super Bowl commercial about the two Snicker bar guys
"kissing." So many people began pointing fingers that the reason for
everyone hating this ad was "homophobia." Surprise! It was a gay and
lesbian group that protested the ad, and requested the ad be removed.
Good for them. What was this ad trying to say? That two guys were so
ready to eat a Snickers that they almost kissed while eating the same
Snickers...only to want to self mutilate one another in order to
overcome this "horrible" moment in their lives? Let us be candid; the
small, pittance of spin doctors who tried to defend
this ad online were commercial company plants, probably, from the very
commercial company responsible for this tripe. Now its gone...and good
riddance.
