Yet another "Characters not Actors" Mantra... Once again allow us to repeat: this list isn't meant to insult the actors or actresses; just the characters. Just a short while after Roswell was long gone, Emilie de Ravin ("Tess") would make it big on the hit drama Lost, as the often suffering Claire. Nobody's saying she doesn't have talent (at least; we're not saying that here). However; ten years from now, even Emilie might look back on Roswell and admit that her character on that show totally sucked.

The Top Ten WORST Characters That Ever Happened to Great Sci-Fi.

Number 7: Tess

("Roswell," The WB, 1999-2001)

A Quote To Be Remembered By:
"You see that star, the way it wobbles?"

Cute? Perhaps. Popular character? No.Hey, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No; it's a wobbly star! See it? No; me neither. Tess saw it, though, in yet another fine moment of Roswell that her character was about to ruin...again. Ask not how good Tess' eyesight is, in order to know the star is wobbly. Ask not, furthermore, what the heck a "wobbly" star is. It's just one of perhaps a hundred reasons why Tess was ---spoilers notwithstanding--- all but killed in cold blood in the season two finale. She was that annoying. Ouch!

The idea was simple: to add a love triangle. The problem: the series' format did not allow for one. It is not uncommon for a series' lead characters to fall in and out of love...unless, for example, their forbidden love story was the whole point to the series. The need was clear: add a love triangle, but make sure that "the other woman" doesn't have any chance. So they make "alien" Claire into an annoying, whiney, totally unlikeable brat. On the one hand this made it unlikely anyone would root for her get Max, and not series heroine Liz Parker. On the other hand: they made her character so unlikeable, she was totally worthless. Oops...

So worthless was Tess that the series literally blasted her into space, when it was clear there was nothing left to do with her. Suddenly, a male cast member wanted "out," so he could pursue a film career. So the series had his character murdered...by Tess. Max finds out. What to do? Why; he throws her into their only remaining spaceship, and blasts her into space. Ask not how idiotic this story sounds out of context. Fans of the series were too overjoyed at Tess' farewell to care.

Next, Number 6: Chewbacca's Evil Offspring.
