An Overview:
This is to help newcomers to Techtite.com
get an overview
of this web site. This is not necessarily a FAQ per se, although
it should answer most likely questions. In addition, on page
4, is A Greeting from the Editor...
First, a bottom-line
definition of what this site is:
TECHtite.com is a web site created by an actual software
developer (with two college degrees). Although this web site
will someday (soon, hopefully!) be used to distribute personal
software made by the site's creator, it is presently used for
entertainment purposes, reviewing any number of products; what a software developer buys, himself,
what he thinks of said products, and why. This initially
includes Movies, TV, DVD, and Software. Other product categories
may be added as time goes along...
Other FYI-type factoids :
- The editor of this web site has two college degrees in the field of
computer science and software development. So yes, the majority of
multimedia and software reviews here know what they're talking about,
and are not merely "off the cuff" opinions.
- Techtite.com buys products right off-the-shelf, just as you do.
Each review is as accurate a review of the product as
possible. No program betas, nor sneak previews (unless where
otherwise noted)...
- Techtite.com is an associate of Amazon.com, offering the easy
online purchase of most products. No matter how favorable the
review is or isn't, you'll be able to click a simple link to purchase
that item.
- I try to be as fair and impartial as possible. To that extreme,
I will also post reviews of your own! Well, at least,
as many as I possibly can. Click here
for details
Some Font Help (If
Needed)...
In The Interests of putting as much on a
page as possible, Techtite.com uses an 8-point font on all menus and most
"sidebars" (the gray information column, at the right of the
newest reviews). If the font is too small on your system, click on the
"view" menu of Internet Explorer, and Choose "Font
Size," and choose any font size larger than "smallest." In
fact, this should make similar web pages even more crystal clear.
Personally, I don't know why the "smallest" option in Internet
Explorer is offered at all; what good is a font you can't read?
A Macintosh-Friendly Policy...
...Techtite is a loyal Mac-fan,
and Techtite.com strives to be Macintosh-friendly, whenever
possible. I have a 1999 "lime" iMac I'm particularly fond of, no
matter how dated its technology is getting these days. It's a cute, standalone
computer, which rarely gives as much grief as the PC...until
you start looking for software!
At first, Techtite.com had Mac owners
searching for the spinning
Apple logos, for any review of Macintosh-compatible software or hardware.
Unfortunately, as popular as Macintosh still is, finding such
Mac-compatible products among all the PC-exclusives, is becoming a lot
like a game of "Where's Waldo?" (a grievance that even made
Techtite's editorial page in 2003).
So, now there's The Mac Page for
all Macintosh reviews. Enjoy!
When are You
Updated?!?
...As of January, 2003, Techtite.com is a
weekly "web-zine" updated every Friday. It's not going as
smoothly as anyone would hope though with the resources and manpower
available; we're trying. As a rule, each end-of-the-week update will
include new reviews, and new featurettes, as follows:
- As of early 2004, Techtite News
will summarize all the top entertainment news of the week; not all
the entertainment news, just the best, or close enough!
- As of January 2003, Techtite
TV will take on a Saturday-to-Friday format to accommodate
the new schedule, of web site updates every Friday night.
- Departments are updated monthly:
- A new Feature
Article, every month,
near the first week.
- What
Went Wrong? will be updated every
month, around the Second
Week (i.e., one week after the feature article).
- My
Two Bits will be updated
every Third Week of the month, or one week after the What
Went Wrong column's update.
- The remaining departments are updated
on a need-to-update basis:
Dot's
and Slashes, Letters,
Bargain
Bin Binge, and The
BIG Picture,
the latter of which is supposed to be "weekly" but, again
we can only say: we're trying!
