Techtite's Letters!

About These Letters::

All letters will be responded to, either online here, via e-mail, or both. It doesn't matter whether you fill in the handy-dandy boxes on the offered form, or send a personal e-mail. However, in my experience, people are either more fond of one or the other method, so both letters options are offered here.

Why no "snail mail" address offered? Because while junk e-mail is easy enough to delete, junk mail itself is a pain. It's a shame that I need to refrain from any publicly posted snail-mail address at risk of being put on endless mailing lists for unsolicited mail, though that's usually what happens. Sorry.

The Felicity "hair" incident, revisited...

I just came upon your review of Felicity's first season DVD via the IMDB and found this part interesting...

"By season two, Keri Russell cut her trademark hair, which might seem very minor, yet signaled how a changed Keri Russell --now a "celebrity"-- performed the role. Gone was a girl-next-door performance, replaced with an actress who felt she was so untouchable, she could cut her hair to look, quite frankly, like a Chia Pet."

You're alluding to the hair cutting fiasco being Keri's egocentric decision yet, according to the IMDB's trivia section,

"[...] On both sets of DVDs recently released by the WB, it is mentioned numerous times that Felicity cutting her hair was written into the script by Abrams and Reeves. Keri Russell did not do it on her own."

What gives?

Darren, Canada

This is up to interpretation. Here's the story from Keri herself, during an AOL chat at the time (whose transcript is still available online if you're looking for it):

"[The haircut] started off as a joke...I had [taken a] picture with this really short wig on. And then I sent it to the executive producers saying, you know, I'm having the best summer ever. And I cut my hair and, you know, it looks great, I hope you guys don't mind. But it was all completely a joke. Then about two weeks before we came back to do the second season, the producers called me and said, you know, would you actually mind cutting your hair? We have this idea for a story line. We think it would be real for a college girl to go through this break up, then cut her hair. And I said, Yeah, sure."

As I said, it is all up to interpretation. Although it was partway the producers/writers' idea, Keri offered the idea --even if just a joke-- and she made the final call, since it was her own hair(!).
