About
These Letters::
All letters will be responded to, either
online here, via e-mail, or both. It doesn't matter whether you fill in
the handy-dandy boxes on the offered form, or send a personal e-mail. However, in my
experience, people are either more fond of one or the other method, so
both letters options are offered here.
Why no "snail mail" address
offered? Because while junk e-mail is easy enough to delete, junk mail
itself is a pain. It's a shame that I need to refrain from any publicly
posted snail-mail address at risk of being put on endless mailing lists
for unsolicited mail, though that's usually what happens. Sorry.

Editor's Note: Prior to summer 2003, I
had little or no time to update the letters page at all. The following three
pages are some of my favorite letters --some favorable, some not-- from
those initial years of Techtite Online:
Michael Moore, his
"applause," and you...
I liked how you quoted Moore
word-for-word in your
review of the Academy Awards. Not that I agree with him, though
some newspapers edited what he said as being just
"political", without offering a full dose of how
obnoxious he was. Some papers even acted as if he received both
applause and boos. I think my ears heard boos only, though that's not
why I'm writing. They miss the point completely. It's not what he
said but how he said it. These celebrity blowhards with their
million-dollar homes (from what I hear about Moore, his is closer to
TWO million) all acting like we want to hear their political views on
an awards show...? WRONG. I tune in to awards shows to see awards
handed out. I tune into *CNN* for news. Unless you're a celebrity
correspondent for CNN, shut yer cakehole.
Bill, from
"somewhere in the U.S."
I couldn't agree more. Agree,
disagree, or even agree to disagree with Moore, though the common
denominator was he was just plain ranting like an idiot. Not only did he
make a fool of himself; he made everyone who might agree with some
of what he was saying look like
fools. I'm surprised you're one of the only readers who responded about Moore and the
Oscars, though, here at Techtite's Letters. Is it because people
don't want to give Moore the dignity of a response, or did they not think it
was that bad after all? Send your thoughts.
How Unreal is Unreal 2?...
I can see your point in your
Unreal 2 review. It's a hard game to rate. The graphics kick a$$,
the animation does too, and Aida is a total babe. That's the good. The
bad: none of the levels are even close to the size of even the
shortest Unreal 1 level. The really bad is that this should've been
released as a package deal with Unreal Tournament 2003. Which
reminds me of something because, I don't remember reading your review of that game...?
George
Some games just come out at
an odd month. In the case of UT2003, I played it, but then I was at first out of town, then too
busy playing it again to review it. By the time I was about to write a review it
was clear that everyone who wanted it bought it already, so a review was a
moot point. I'll
add its review to the archives soon.
Revenge of the Attack of
"Clones"...
I always like it when I read a review that is in *favor* of Attack
of the Clones. What did people who didn't like it want?
Shakespearean acting? How many Shakespearean actors go on to be
cartoon voices for Batman?!? What about Yoda in a light saber duel?
Oh, as if anyone since 1977 hasn't waited twenty five years to see
THAT! Some may say that they wanted more quotable dialog, but how many lines can you quote from the original series that wasn't
simply "I'm going to quote everything Han Solo said and act like
it's quotable because he's my FAVORITE character"...?
Come on, guys, play fair. AOTC was a good Star Wars. If you wanted a
better one, grab dad's video camera and send what you can do to www.theforce.net
like everyone else. Talk is cheap. If you can do better, LET'S SEE
IT!!!
Darth P.O.'ed, Washington
I agree; what exactly did the
people who "hated" it expect? If it wasn't Yoda in a light saber
duel, I doubt even they know. I don't want this to become a flame war
but...if anyone out there hated it, can you definitively explain why, and
not "I hated it because pop culture thinks bashing Star Wars is so
cool"...? If someone reading this was to have a definitive explanation of what
was expected, send
a letter, and it will be posted.
Cats, Dogs and "Cats
& Dogs"...
I disagree with you on "Cats
& Dogs", and your comments on the criticism
thereof. I have to go with that one guy who gave the excessively
negative, heavily slanted, pro-cat/anti-dog, review for the film,
simply because I agree with him, to a degree. Of course we cat lovers
are going to hate something that disses cats. Think of it this way:
suppose the movie was heavily anti-dog, as that critic was. How would
you feel about it then?
Any way, it all boils down to treating
the audience with respect. Cats and Dogs basically slapped cat lovers
in the face, which is not only immature and childish, but also
extremely stupid, since it effectively alienates and angers a
good-sized portion of its audience.
QuickCheetah, United
States
Opinions for Cat's
& Dogs are right down the middle; dog lovers like it, cat lovers hate
it. However, it's an interesting question: would tables be turned if the
story was pro-cat and anti-dog? I wonder.
Disney's Aristocats was popular, yet it had cats as the
heroes and two dogs as bungling oafs. The Lion King
comes to mind as well; very pro-cat, as if all other species are either
enemies, comedy relief...or food! I still think Cats & Dogs was
pretty funny though. Parachuting ninja cats...?
That's funny stuff.
