Techtite's Letters!

About These Letters::

All letters will be responded to, either online here, via e-mail, or both. It doesn't matter whether you fill in the handy-dandy boxes on the offered form, or send a personal e-mail. However, in my experience, people are either more fond of one or the other method, so both letters options are offered here.

Why no "snail mail" address offered? Because while junk e-mail is easy enough to delete, junk mail itself is a pain. It's a shame that I need to refrain from any publicly posted snail-mail address at risk of being put on endless mailing lists for unsolicited mail, though that's usually what happens. Sorry.

Winter, 2003

"Loved the series. Loathed the movie." Me too!

I just read the review of Battlestar 2003. Haven't seen it. But I guess after reading the review and seeing the trailer. I wasn't far off the mark, with my preconceived notions. It reminds me of the remake of Lost In Space (the movie). With all their special effects and inflated budgets. It kinda made me wonder, is there any color in the damn future. They missed the mark from the get go. What made the original Irwin Allen series such a true classic, wasn't the special effects. It was the simple childhood dreams of taking a family pick-nick, on a far away planet, and getting into an adventure. Loved the series. Loathed the movie.

I agree. Whatever happened to color in the future...? You'd think someone would add a dash of color to the costumes, the spaceships, the sets ...and the movie!

Was This Galactica even less of a remake...?

The Galactica was the only battlestar left? Not according to Adama. He reads a message that says 30 battlestars have been destroyed, "...about a quarter of the fleet." The new writer couldn't even get that part of the old Galactica right.

You're right. It seems that when I gave a mere paragraph of things that were similar between the 1978 Galactica series and the recent Sci-Fi mini-series, I was being too kind. There's even less similarities than would fit on that single paragraph!

Not that Everyone Didn't Like It...

I read your review of BSG. I think you miss the point. To give new life to an old and dated series...you must first sacrifice many sacred cows.

Even Star Trek got a major facelift when it went from TOS to the films.

I was incredibly skeptical over the new BSG, however when I saw it...I am convinced. It's an instant classic. If they (Ron Moore and company) can keep up this quality of writing/directing, etc...then they've got a major winner on their hands.

2001: A Space Odyssey was also met with incredible venom by the critics when it first came out.

20th Century Fox execs originally wanted to scrap STAR WARS after they saw the rough cut.

In the end, re-watch the new BSG, and I think you'll see that it's a damned good series.

Will I give this series a second chance if it is made into a series? Absolutely. Will I change my mind on the mini series? Sadly...no. But hey; how many shows started off poorly? Simpsons' pilot episode looked like rough sketch work. Star Trek The Next Generation had clunky acting by people not yet accustomed to their characters. Can this series improve? Sure...but improve it must, because diehard fans aren't impressed.

FYI: Terminator 3 is now out on DVD. What a shame!

Thank You. Finally someone agrees with me that T3 was garbage. I am a big fan of the Terminator films, and was repulsed by T3. The writers and the director had no regard for the true fans of the series. The ending with SKYNET being a virus is complete bull seeing as the Terminators need the neural net processor to exist and function. Also with the power cells. He has 2 correct, that is what Arnold said earlier in the film. Yes I know the power cell thing can't be true but lets say that it is. He threw one out after the car chase, the at the end uses the second to kill the T-X. When he removes the power cell, how does the Terminator continue to function without anything powering it. It can't. Anyway thank you for actually have the balls to talk about T3's garbage of a plot.

I always like to hear from people who, like me, hated Terminator 3. It's out on DVD by now, so I guess it's no major spoiler anymore to tell people that the reason it is garbage is because to tons of story errors that are totally out of sync with the prior films; hence the reason for my editorial at the time. What were they thinking here?
