My latest Two Bits for the week ending: Friday, January 30th, 2009------------------------------------------------------------------- So continues the new weekly format of My 2 Bits. Simply put, for those readers who haven't checked the site out since 2008: this editorial will be updated weekly to coincide with the web site's weekend updates. Yes; I promise to stop reminding people of this, next week. Let's move on... Lost's Third Hour. Once again I feel compelled to talk about Lost, so if you hate spoilers feel free to click here and jump to the first spoiler-free topic. Fans have said in many cases that this was one of the best episodes they ever saw, and I agree. While the episode had none of the "Oceanic Six" ---Kate, her "son," Sayid, Jack, Sun, and Hurley are all absent--- you don't miss them, as the action centers on Desmond off the island, and the islanders on-island. We see a glimpse of the island's early history, another clue as to yet another batch of 1950's visitors to the island, and an even more intriguing glimpse at a young Charles Widmore. We also learn from Juliet some new facts about the island which might shed some light on how old it is. Like how the native "others" to the island all speak Latin, or how the seemingly ageless Richard Alpert has, as far as Juliet knows, lived forever on the island. Another fine example of how to almost-end a series, in its second last season. 24 week 2 I'll try to keep the opinions of "hour 6" as spoiler free as possible, though I will say this much: how does someone get shot in the neck and not only survive, though they need only minor medical attention and for the remainder of the episode they seem totally healthy and back to work? What the hey? Galactica, Gaeta, and this infernal "arc" Spoilers aside, I have to voice my utter contempt for the current story arc of Galactica. Sure, the show is well acted, with well developed characters and some well written stories. The problem is that there are only ten episodes left and thanks to this "Gaeta" story arc, we may never get the loose plot threads answered that we wanted. Where is the "real" Earth? Will Galactica ever find us, and if so, what moment in our history (or future) will we meet? These are the questions fans want answered, not "When will Adama, with a whole Battlestar of soldiers, get his command post back after it was taken over by the most mousy dweeb in the whole fleet?
Seriously; how stupid is this story arc? Gaeta takes over the bridge and
the other people on deck just sit and take the orders of their "new
Commander"...? Like Adama says, "there will be a reckoning"...yet why, on
a whole ship of soldiers, is it going to take so "fracking" long? Does
the effete dweeb Gaeta really have that much power, and if so; since
when? Was there an episode I missed which showcased Gaeta's competence
as a soldier, a brave warrior, and most importantly...a leader? Okay; so
maybe this Mini Me Hitler found a sizeable amount of soldiers ready for
mutiny. Yet; even if
the majority of the ship was against the current amnesty for Cylons; the
idea of people willingly turning their backs on Adama to obey the orders
of Gaeta, is like someone turning their backs on George Washington so
they could take orders from Clay Aiken. Somehow, "frack" is too gentle a
word to summarize how inane this episode was. Sorry, this episode was a
major one-star
----- ...That's about it for the first "weekly" editorial. Until next week!
