The My Two Bits editorial for January 2006 is titled :

State of the "Site" Address, 2006

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I never really have anything to say in January, as a rule. Nothing major in movies, with December 31st often considered the cut of date for Oscars, and even earlier December considered the end of any major ticket sales. TV is on the most part repeats or "filler" until February sweeps. New games are...well, not so much.

So allow me to begin what will be this site's first annual State of the "Site" Address. It's an overview of what is happening behind the scenes here, and what we're planning for the new year of 2006 (in this case).

First of all, I admit, updates were slow in coming in 2005. I apologize for that, to anyone who regularly visits this site. Not to get too personal or anything, but for me, 2005 was a pretty crummy year. This site was affected, if only because assistance with the site is minimal at this point. With a new year comes the hope for new life to the site. That's the best way to look at it.

Two new departments for the new year are the "Tech Blog" and "Tech Talk." The "Talk" blog is for any questions you may have. I just opened it because as a rule, many of the letters received here are questions and they get lost in the letters column among all other letters. So I felt it best to open a page devoted exclusively to any questions you may have, pertaining mostly to computers and games, but also TV, movies, DVD, or whatever else we cover here. Just send in your questions.

The Tech Blog is a simple blog, if just because I needed a weekly page to put every news byte or comment or editorial that didn't fit in anywhere else. So far it's mostly what I watched that week on TV, along with news items of interest in entertainment, and my opinions of such. I just felt the need for such a blog as I continually update the site, based on how well such blogs look on other sites. It just seems to enhance all sites of all subject matter. I particularly like how Penny Arcade offers an anecdote along with each comic strip, to tell readers where the inspiration for the latest strip came from. That's a nice touch.

One thing that won't be coming back is Techtite News. It was basically a blog of all the news each week, ranging from computers to video games to television and movies and "Hollywood news." Personally I thought it was a good idea; a great summary of all the entertainment news you'd have to search at least a dozen other sites to read. For almost two years that's exactly what it was. But it took too much manpower to produce and the entire site was suffering for it. It just had to go.

One thing that we're at least trying to bring back is Techtite TV. That was the plan but so far such summaries of what was worth watching each week is best summarized in the Tech Blog. We'd of course love to return to a Tech TV format, which was sort of like TV Guide, only and all the episodes for that week are reviewed.

As always, if you love or hate, like or dislike anything on the site, the letters column is always open. In addition; for anyone who would love to see their entertainment reviews on its own page, and not thrown into a message board with 1,000 other replies: this site has invited all guest reviews since 1999. In fact; that link is just for legalese in case of lawsuit hunters. Just send a thorough review via the letters page and it'll get posted like any "regular" review here. Of course we can't post 100 reviews of one item but that's a pipe dream of a problem, really. Just send in your reviews. It's that simple.

That's about it for the State of the Site, at this time. I guess the easiest conclusion is that this site is still doing well enough to stay online, which is saying something when some of my favorite web sites of old have long since vanished. Hey; I feel a feature article brewing here; The Best Sites That Are Now Long Gone. But that is another editorial.

As Always: I'm Techtite, and these are My Two Bits...
