My latest Two Bits to share:

State of the Site 2008.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

So it's the start of the new year and for this site, that means an annual look at what happened in the past year and how it affects the future of the site. What will this site delete, and what will be added? Here's the quick run down.

Among the biggest changes for 2008 is the new "Gadgets & Gear: Review page. This is essentially an amalgam of the site's "Hardware" and "Toys" pages, which were originally separate. In recent years, I found myself reviewing "hardware" that could just as easily be called an "executive toy," with "toys" that were mostly electronic-related, anyway. The thin line between the two pages seemed to be waning. I'd love to review some new robots, for example, though they are not exactly computer hardware, and not "toys," at least not per se. So this new section will cover all "gadgets" and "gear"; any entertainment product that isn't a movie or a book or something on disc.

The letters forum is still getting hit by spam, though after attempts to prevent this, it's been decided that too many security measures would make it too tedious for the readers to send their feedback, and that can't happen. A "Captcha" sort of forum has been considered though it's not like the letters column is being used to deliver your tax reports or anything terribly security-driven; the letters page is just asking for feedback. So for now I'll weed through the obligatory spam as I keep the letters window "user freindly" for this site's loyal readers, whose needs are the top priority.

As for video game reviews: if it seems like I centered attention on the Playstation 3 page more than other game systems in late '2007, there's a reason for that, which does not mean I've chosen a "favorite system." It's like a parent concentrating on the "problem child," actually. It's not rocket science to choose a good game for the 360 (Halo 3, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed) or the Wii (Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and so on). There are some who would say a review of any of the above titles is a moot point because most gamers who would buy those games already have. That makes sense.

There are others, however, who are saying the PS3 has nothing good on it yet, and that has led to reviews of worthwhile games on Techtite.com's review page for that system. It just seemed more necessary to review games that aren't getting their due, which for now are games on the PS3. In particular, there's this sardonic video over at GameTrailers called "Top Ten PS3 games," which seems to imply that the PS3 is a washout, with only half of the list filled with games, har-har. That's a misconception I had to address via more thorough game reviews. There are quite a few good games out for the PS3, and I chose to review those with top priority. If that meant that this site's Mass Effect and Super Mario Galaxy reviews were delayed...did you really need them?

I really wanted to bring back Techtite TV; the little blog of everything TV related each week, that made the TV review page so much more fun. Then the Writers Strike happened and, well, that didn't happen. The writer's strike is now over by the time you read this, though sadly, that doesn't mean much for this season of TV, until fall. Even more sadly; the same applies to any plans to revive Techtite TV. I'd love to bring Techtite TV back as a weekly blog in full force in time for the new fall season.

That's about it for now. See you next month for another pair of my 2 bits from the entertainment world...

As Always: I'm Techtite, and these are My Two Bits...
