Amazon :Guardians of Eden(Access Software Inc, 1992)In between Tex Murphy Mysteries (just after Martian Memorandum, and long before Under a Killing Moon), there was this amusing mystery- adventure by Access Software. The difference between a Tex Murphy mystery and this one was only in its approach; the music, cutscenes, and puzzles were not unlike a classic serial movie series, where action would end at a gripping moment, and then begin again, in the next "chapter," with an amusing solution to that challenge. At any time, you could click on the movie reels that appeared at the top of the screen, and see each cutscene over and over again. By the end of the game, you clicked on the completed film reel, to see everything you accomplished as one whole, completed "movie"; a cute touch. Unfortunately, the game's graphics interfered with a few of the puzzles (some of the smaller objects are quite hard to find, or even "click on" to pick up). In addition, the places you can explore aren't half as exciting as the ones Tex Murphy usually travels to (hey, you can't beat Mars!). However, the finale made it worthwhile (as well as an online "hint option" if you get stuck), and the evolving love story with an "Amazon princess" was cute. In the end, this game deserves a solid thumbs-up...
