Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within

(Sierra On-Line, 1995)

A fantastic sequel to the original Gabriel Knight game. So great was this sequel, it even made it on Techtite's listing of Top 50 Multimedia Classics, beating even the original game! Werewolves in the subplot were amusing enough; the climactic final battle, seen in the mono-colored eyes of a werewolf itself, was incredibly inspired, leading to a conclusion to the story so well acted and performed, it rivaled most 1995 movies in theaters!

What's really surprising about this game, however, is how Jane Jensen took a point-and-click game engine --the same one that made Phantasmagoria and King's Quest-7 into easily solved snoozers-- and made a spectacular entertainment experience out of it. There are very, very few 1990's adventures I would bother to reboot on my "Pentium-12" someday. This would be one of them.

Rating : Deep Impact.
