King's Quest: Quest for the Crown

(Sierra On-Line, 1984, Apple ][e)

A legend in game design, this was a game originally requested by IBM itself. They wanted a special, never-before seen game for their PCjr; a top notch, push-the-envelope game concept. Instead, after PCjr didn't do too very well, the game was ported to every home computer under the sun...and a whole new gaming genre was born. To add to the fun, multiple solutions were available for hardest puzzles ; the most thought-out solutions led to more game points, and perhaps even a secret surprise (using a mere pail of water to douse a fire-breathing dragon, for example, has him flee through a secret door!). This game even made it on Techtite's list of Top 50 Multimedia Classics. An unforgettable moment on my Apple//e.

Rating : Deep Impact.
