King's Quest III: To Heir is Human

(Sierra On-Line, 1986)

A game that at first has no sign of being a story of King Graham at all, this adventure was a unique spin on the classic series. It also had a vast amount of land to traverse, as a young boy travels far away from the wizard's tower that treated him as a slave. From a ride on a pirate ship, to concocting various potions in the wizards lair (complete with amusing side effects if the spell was done wrong), this game was almost as fun as the first two. "Almost"...? Well, the game did have the annoyance of a "puzzle" where you had to traverse the path up/down a mountain path; one wrong move meaning instant death, as you moved your cursor keys, ever-so-daintily. That puzzle, if you call it that, was more than a little annoying.

Rating : Large Crater.
