Kingpin
(Interplay/Xatrix, 1999)
Dozens of game critics poked understandable fun
at this game...so why not one more? The concept of this @#$%
game is that a bunch of @#$% foul language is all a game needs to be a @#$%ing cool action game. Sorry, guys; no @#$%ing way!
Sure, it uses the impressive Quake
2 engine, so if you merely want a Quake 2
game with a few curse words thrown in, you needed Kingpin.
However, I was left wanting something more. You can forgive
Xatrix --whose most memorable contribution to 3D action games
was Redneck Rampage-- for thinking a bunch of foul
mouthed alley folk would be fun to listen to, and then you could
beat the @#$% out of them. However, this meager thrill is over
pretty @#$% quick. I admit, the ability to have "friends" in
single-player mode --gang members with impressive artificial
intelligence, obeying your every command-- was a @#$%ing cool
idea. However, the rest of the game was almost total @#$%, including
the piece-of-@#$% ending.
