Out of This World

(Interplay, 1991)
A revolution
in approach to interactive storytelling, this game has no real
voice acting, or even sound effects, yet depended on graphics
and music to tell the evolving story. Your character, during
an atomic acceleration experiment, gets thrust into a parallel
universe, where he is immediately imprisoned. He first escapes
his jail cel (by breaking his suspended cage onto the guard below...cool!),
then gets involved in a revolt against this planet's evil armies.
Animation was years ahead of the competition, and the storytelling
methods were just plain excellent. By the end of the game, you
really feel like you experienced a major entertainment experience;
a good reason why this game is in Techtite's choices for Top 50 Multimedia Classics.
A game that would be a pleasure to play, even to this very day.
