Hero's Quest I: So You Want to be a Hero?

(Sierra On-Line, 1990)

This game thrust Sierra graphic adventures into a (sort of) RPG world, with a character whose health, hunger, sleep, and skills needed to be taken care of, as well as adventure-game puzzles. Add to this intriguing concept a fantastic music score; one of the best by Sierra games' music veteran, Mark Seibert. The finale is also fantastic, complete with a sneak peek of the sequel, Trial By Fire. The only "flaw" with this game was title; allegedly, it was already trademarked by a board game company, and Sierra had to change the game series title to Quest For Glory. A rep at Sierra once claimed that this led to over a third of the original buyers of this game never seeing it's incredible sequel, Quest for Glory 2. Personally, I think the board game company should've cut Sierra some slack. Whatever; no matter what title given, this was a revolutionary RPG/adventure hybrid.

Rating : Deep Impact.
