Space Quest VI: Roger Wilco in the Spinal Frontier

(Sierra On-Line, 1995)

This was the worst in the series; SQ6 stripped the evolving storyline of any value. It even took away everything Wilco worked so hard for in SQ5, including his Starship, Captain's rank, girlfriend, and even his alien pet (!). Equally present were goofs Sierra made in all its graphic adventures since King's Quest 7. Most noteworthy was its use of Saturday-Morning Cartoon, plain-color graphics; big mistake. It also relived one of the bigger mistakes of Space Quest 4, where the most lackluster area explored is more than 2/3rds of the whole game (space mall in SQ4; "innerspace" in SQ6). The decision of Cendant (and later, Havas Interactive), after buying out Sierra On-Line, was to cancel this series completely. If this is what to expect more of in a sequel, I don't blame them.

Rating : Burnout.
