The 7th Guest
(Trilobyte, 1993)
I remember the first shots of this game's graphics, and how
forward I was to seeing the game itself. Once released, this
was debatably one of the three popular CD-only titles, that began
the whole need for CD-ROM drives themselves (the other
two were Myst and Under a Killing Moon). While
other CD games were made at the same time, this was one of the
first to be actually any good. The haunted house premise
might not have been as forboding as the one in Alone
in the Dark, nor was its story as creepy as Lurking Horror. It's actors'
performances were also, often, quite overdone. However, its graphics
were top notch, music by "The Fat Man" was some of
his best, and puzzles were unique, to say the least; one different
puzzle for every room of the mansion. The ending was confusing,
though acceptable. The game was even upgraded to a version more
compatible with modern Windows 95/98 machines; thanks!
