Spare Change

(Broderbund, 1983 (or 4?), Apple //e)
Much
like the arcade classic, Burgertime, you needed
a good sense of humor for this game. That said, this was one
of the first truly hilarious computer games, ever, and a happily
placed addition to Techtite's list, of Top
50 Multimedia Classics. The premise is that you're the
night guard for an arcade of the 1980's...and the Zerks --stars
of your most popular game-- have escaped! They start stealing
every token they can find; with enough of them, they can retire...a
big "game over" if you can't stop them. You must take
tokens and put them pack into the boxes where they belong, before
the Zerks steal them. Ways that you can distract the Zerks involve
using the tokens in nearby appliances. Put one in the phone and
they'll use the free call to phone a friend. Use one in the jukebox
and the Zerks take time to dance! Play the game through for enough
game levels, and unlock special Zerk comedy show animations;
a cute touch. This was a great memory in my Apple //e days, and
certainly one of the most unique gaming experiences in its day.
