Under a Killing Moon

(Access, 1994)

Just barely (within maybe a hair away) from getting into Techtite's list of Top 50 Multimedia Classics, this was an amusing third installment in Access software's Tex Murphy mystery series. This was one of the first games that vowed to be exclusively on CD-only, and it's excellent gameplay value helped sell those initial CD-ROM drives to first-time buyers. Adding to the fun was a 3D interface; not unlike Doom, though used for exploration and puzzles, not action gaming. This game engine allowed you to search virtual versions of each scene, for the clues you needed. While the ending is a little silly, the game was still a fantastic blend of real-time 3D exploration, and "interactive movie." A fond game memory.

Rating : Deep Impact.
