Westworld 2000

(Byron Press/Brooklyn Multimedia, 1996)

What in the name of gaming led to the release of this? Not only is it one of the most ridiculous 3D action games I ever played, it is the worst use of a movie-tie-in since probably E.T. on the Atari 2600! While I loved the original film, Westworld, and the premise of a game based on this movie (robotic theme parks gone awry) is a good idea, this game destroys that ingenuity 100%. It takes no cue from 3D gaming in the prior half decade, and has graphics that are not as good as Quake (released the same year), Doom (1994), or even Wolf 3D (1992)! Enemies might as well be stick figures; they have so little detail, they could be either robots, regular humans, or stuffed dolls. The voice acting is as if they were speaking into an audio cassette recorder from the 1970s. The game was so bad, it was essentially unfinishable, making my experience with the game much more short-lived than it had to be...thankfully.

Rating : Burnout.
