X-Com 2:

Terror From the Deep

(Microprose, 1995)

Perhaps one of the quickest-released sequels in the history of games, this sequel to the fantastic X-Com : UFO Defense, was in truth a mere mission disk, in "new game" packaging. The gameplay showed nothing new (and, arguably, showed a little less), and simply involved an undersea theme, as opposed to outer space. While undersea combat was interesting to see, it just wasn't the same as the original. In the first game, an alien fighting you in a gas station was in for the surprise of his life...KABOOM! Comparatively, in Terror From the Deep, an undersea battle often leads to a deep "bloop!" at best. While fans of X-Com wanted new missions PDQ (and for better or worse, here they were), there wasn't enough here to call a spectacular game. I'll give it a thumbs-up, though only slightly.

Rating : Small Crater.
