------------- Sidebar :: ------------- Does this resort truly deserve a "Deep Impact"...? Actually, yes it does. However, I admit, this resort is huge, and with several hotel rooms, each with their own possible enhancements or limitations in view or overall location. It also is quite a bus ride's distance from the MGM, Animal Kingdom, and EPCOT resorts. However, for any family which would be most likely to visit the "Animal Kingdom" park, more than any of the other 3 DisneyWorld parks, this is the resort to visit. After staying at this hotel over three times by now, I have yet to have a bad experience there. That alone is worth a flawless rating. |

DisneyWorld's Grand Floridian Resort(picture N/A; coming soon!) A Review by TechtiteGrand Floridian was the last resort ever built around the main monorail track of the Magic Kingdom. What this means is, much like the Polynesian and Contemporary resorts, you can ride a private monorail right to the front entrance of the Magic Kingdom, in addition to the boats that take you there via private resort piers. Being this close to the park also means great photo ops, for those people who pay extra for a room with a bay-side view. Regardless of the view from the room, however, this resort proves to be one of the best within the Magic kingdom area, and is often the most fun to be in, even when the park is closed at night! The best part of the hotel is the lobby area. Several stories high, this is modeled much like an old fashioned southern mansion, complete with a gigantic staircase leading to the second floor. On the first floor (in addition to the front desks) is a living room style center area, with numerous places to sit while live music often plays (on either the first floor piano, or a small stage on the second floor, which often allows for a small orchestra or live band). It costs extra to stay within this main building --most rooms are honeymoon suites or the like-- though you can visit this main building at any time, so don't feel too bad if you're in one of the neighboring buildings, which quite frankly often have an even better view of the nearby Buena Vista bay. As for rooms, they are typically excellent, as are most Disney resort rooms. Some might say that, when it comes to the overall architecture of all hotel rooms in the Disney Resort area --bed, table, phone, TV, bathroom-- they are all pretty much alike. However, there is a certain uniqueness to a room within the Grand Floridian Hotel, especially if you stay in one of the suites. While the Contemporary resort was admittedly made with more internal restaurants and stores in mind, Grand Floridian has some all its own, which many may want to visit, even if they're not staying there! This includes an all-day soda shop type cafeteria, which is right in the back of the main building, and includes both indoor and outdoor tables. The outdoor tables, FYI, overlook the bayside view, right in view of the Magic Kingdom. This all-day eatery may not be as arcade-game-savvy as the Contemporary Resort's first floor arcade/cafe, yet it has its own charm. There is also 1900 Park fare --a more "glitzy" cafeteria-- which includes a character breakfast for the kids, a more regal type of dinner for the adults, and spectacular food selections. Characters that visit you in this restaurant --in case the kids ask-- often include those from Mary Poppins, Alice in Wonderland, and Peter Pan. Dinner characters, as of this review's posting, have been discontinued, due to a more adult crowd coming at night. Bottom Line is, if you're intending to visit DisneyWorld during the Christmas season, Grand Floridian is truly the place to stay. A spectacular Christmas tree is placed in the lobby, several stories in size, which will leave you wondering how exactly they were able to fit it in there, through such tiny doors and windows. In addition, chestnuts "roasting on an open fire" are offered for free outdoors, just before entering the lobby. Most often, there is even a few other surprises, including, when I stayed there, a giant gingerbread house actually made entirely of gingerbread and candy. The overall environment is spectacular during all days of the year; during holidays, it's even better.
