All those action figures... The electronic Artoo made me think; why aren't newer action figures "snazzier"...? Back in the day, it was a big deal when an action figure actually wore a cloth cape or robe; now, they should have all that, a watch battery for sound effects, and a laser blaster that lights up! Well, okay, the blaster would need a power source...so why not connect it to the hand, with a battery in the back of the action figure? In whatever configuration you think of, it's bound to be better than most action figures out there, hence the lack of such figures on this list...except for that cool R2D2 that beeps and lights when pressed. THAT was totally cool!

Star Wars:

Attack of the Clones,

The Top Ten Best Toys

A Techtite Review

Techtite's toy review section was created with the consumer in mind, inundated with memorabilia from the latest movie, tv show, or the like. What should you buy? Better yet, should you settle for a separate toy altogether? This new section covers this all, as it begins its reign today, May 17th, 2002!

So, where to begin? Duh; those endless shelves of Attack of the Clones movie tie-ins are a good place to start. Which are the must-haves, and which are best left not purchased at all? Let this list answer one half of that question: the top ten best toys for Attack of the Clones, in no particular order. Ready? Of course you are:

(Click on pictures, or toy name, to Order them if you like).

coverJango Fett 12" Figure I admit, there was once an electronic 12" Boba Fett which was much cooler, which uttered 3 classic lines from the film. While this figure is decidedly sans batteries (and therefore, no electronic parts), such limitations make it all the easier to re-create that cool rain battle with Obi-Wan. The Coolest Part: his helmet comes off, revealing the scarred visage of Jango Fett underneath.

coverAttack of the Clones Action Figure: R2-D2 (Coruscant Sentry) While the lack of many action figures in this list may surprise you, it isn't because I don't recommend them; there's just too many of them to choose any as the best...except this one. Unmistakably designed by an Artoo fan, pressing the front vents of this diminutive, 2 inch miniature makes his red sensor flash, as he utters a random set of beeps to alert you of danger nearby. What danger? Well, those two small creatures that come with it; they're easy to lose!

coverAttack of the Clones: Wrist Shooter While toys that shoot discs are nothing new, this one straps to a child's wrist, a la Jango Fett, as he shoots at included targets. Just make sure his siblings aren't in the line of fire.

cover12 inch Clone Trooper (limited release figure; order link removed) No true blue Star Wars fan can pass up the chance to own the one and only, original Storm Trooper...oops, I'm sorry; "Clone Trooper." The question here, though, is why there's no way of taking off the helmet, even though the film reveals who said "clone" is. Regardless, I know of kids who already own 5 of these. Buy your clone army now!

coverMace Windu 12" figure (limited release figure; order link removed) Yes, they had a Mace Windu figure before. However, this one is based on the new film, complete with the now infamous "purple light saber" that Samuel L. Jackson personally requested. Furthermore, how are you going to re-create that cool battle Mace has with Jango Fett, without buying both figures?

coverLEGO Star Wars Slave I (7144) Yes, the Slave-1 is nothing new to the Lego Star Wars collection. However, this is the ship when it was a brand new vessel owned by Jango Fett, Boba Fett's father. It's much more colorful...and so is this recreation, compared to the original Lego model. Sure, for movie continuity's sake, this Jango Fett Slave 1 does not include Han Solo in carbomite as much as Jango and his young son. It's still a spectacular model.

coverLEGO Star Wars Rebel Blockade Runner Among so many cool ships in the first trilogy, LEGO decidedly left the best for last; the often forgotten Rebel Blockade Runner, which Princess Leia used to dash past a Star Destroyer in the first film. Of course, there is unlikely to be a Star Destroyer built to scale which could help you re-live the opening chase scene. It still is a cool way to complete your LEGO spaceship collection!

coverLEGO: Republic Gunship Great attention to detail is apparent here, with secret compartments for little tools and of course numerous battle turrets. It also includes 4 clones, a Jedi, a destroyer droid, and 2 super battle droids. It's 686 pieces, yet the final product is incredibly worth it.

coverAttack of the Clones 15" R2D2 Droid Though not available until August 15th 2002, and even then, not available to anyone who doesn't have $99.95 to spend, this is one of the coolest fifteen inch "programmable robots" ever constructed...or so we all hear. Word is it will accept 40 different voice commands, have full freedom of movement, and even utter that classic Princess Leia distress signal (though of course, not as a hologram!). Not unlike the cafeteria scene in Clones, it also has an attachment to hold your favorite drink. Sounds great.

cover Movie Replica: Master Yoda's Lightsaber. (limited release figure; order link removed) Decidedly for the big boys, this movie replica prop by Master Replicas gives you one of the finest movie props to salute since the original Luke Skywalker light saber; YODA's light saber! This is a licensed recreation, authorized by Lucasfilm and therefore a completely accurate re-creation. Sure, killjoy friends jealous of this pricey, $249 dollar collectible, will tell you how Yoda was all CGI in the film, and therefore, so was the saber. So what? All that means is that this allows you to hold it when few Lucasfilm staff members were able to themselves. Constructed from durable machined and die-cast metal components, each replica is hand-assembled and finished. A museum quality walnut and acrylic display case is included. Hope you have a big birthday coming up!
