"Vengeance"...? Whose vengeance? Good Question...one which isn't really answered in this game, right up to the finale. I suppose it just sounded good as a game title, though if you ask me, "Mask of the Phantasm" had the more appropriate title. On the other hand, in a game whose story involves the Joker, Poison Ivy, and Mr. Freeze combined, it must've been hard to choose a title that didn't give away the whole plot (i.e., what is the link to all these crimes). So, okay; "vengeance"...whatever.

A Techtite Review

Now, this is what I'm talking about...

Forget the Nintendo hype that claims you should buy the latest Mario game for each new system launch; when it comes to GameCube, there isn't one (No, Luigi; you don't count; sit down!). Star Wars: Rogue Leader 2 is THE game to buy for your GameCube. give it as a gift to a Star Wars fan, and they'll probably give you a car for your next birthday. Well, okay, maybe only a Hot Wheels car, though hey, they loved the game...that's what I'm talking about.

Okay, so maybe that Hot Wheels comment is politically incorrect for GameCubists. Sure, GameCube owners hate being teased by gamers whose mom and dad could afford to buy them an X-box, and now "love" X-box. However, again, that's what I'm talking about; after they tease you for owning a "childish" game system, pop in this teeny 3-inch disc in the cube, and get ready to hear draws drop to the floor. From the way most graphics look like something right out of the movie, to the time Obi-Wan's voice in the trenches says, "Use the force, Luke..." this game, for true Star Wars fans, just plain ROCKS!

Of course, it's important to remain objective here; in truth, this is a game Lucasarts could've delivered us years ago, yet didn't. They decided to tease us with games where we could be "any rebel pilot," when we wanted to be Luke Skywalker. We were offered some nameless wingman next to us, when we wanted Wedge Antilles. In Obi-Wan, they gave us some faux-Scottish-sounding voice actor, when we wanted the sound byte of Obi-Wan Kenobi saying, "Use the Force, Luke." Have I mentioned that totally cool sound byte enough yet?

The wisest part of this game's design is, it starts off with a bang. There's no teasing with two dozen incongruous missions until offering us a Death Star attack run. This game begins with the Death Star attack. Did I mention you're Luke Skywalker? Cool! Use the force to destroy the Death Star. 'nuf said. From there, enjoy similar cool scenes from the rest of the original trilogy, including the ice planet Hoth and Cloud City. Sure, the Cloud City level is not from the films per se, and was made probably because the map editors wanted to show off; it's still a cool idea. While X-boxers will be playing two Star Wars games modeled after The Phantom Menace (particularly Oni-Wan), GameCube fans will be playing a game based on the whole original trilogy. Nyah, nyah!

There really isn't anything more to say about this game. The only, gripes probably come from X-boxers who're steamed this isn't on their own system. I don't blame them. This is a great game, and the first non-"kiddie" game title that truly makes Nintendo's latest game system shine. It may seem "easy" to the flight sim experts, though that's only because they couldn't stop playing until the very end. That's the mark of a really cool game.

Final Rating : Deep Impact. Better than Obi-Wan, better than Starfighter, and better than any other Star Wars flight-game made to date. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.
