What is Techtite TV?

Far from a recommendation of "What to Watch," these mini-reviews are all the shows I personally saw (or will see) in the present week. Sure, we all watch CNN, the evening news, and one or two of those "other" news shows, and yet how do we feel about the other shows we watch weekly? Here are my own mini-reviews, episode-to-episode.

Best Reason to Turn on TV This Week:

Enterprise. Phlox is given not only the best possible episode for him, though the best episode of the series itself so far.

Biggest Disappointment This Week:

Friends. I hope that this sudden "Joey and Rachel" plot thread isn't going to be the series' intended cliffhanger. That's too sudden...and quite lame.

 Quote of the Week:

"To some of you, this will come as a surprise. For most of you, though, I hope it comes as a relief. But it is my sincere belief that, based upon his response to today's events, David Palmer is unfit to continue as president of the United States..."

...As 24 reaches its fruition in this season's latest terrorist/conspiracy, we learn that some of that conspiracy involves the Vice President trying to usurp power from President Palmer. So ends the episode this week; see you for the result of this meeting of the "minds" next week.

Saturday

11:30, NBC : Saturday Night Live boldly repeated an episode which is unremarkable except it had as its musical group the Dixie Chicks. This is all to coincide with their media blitzkrieg where they cry of being "wronged" after all their rude comments overseas, two months ago. Let's put it this way: I never bought a Dixie Chicks album, and if they have views for/against mine, it still doesn't take away the fact that I never was a fan in the first place. I'd feel the same way if they said something that everyone said good things about. If you hate them for what they said, fine, just be sure not to give them so much flak that they can use it as "free publicity" for their ho-hum songs. Let it go.

Sunday

9:00, ABC: Alias. ...wasn't on tonight, so ABC could traditionally show "The Ten Commandments" on Easter Sunday. What does Moses have to do with Easter Sunday? Not a thing, but it's a tradition and they got flak when they forgot to show it one year, so...

10:00, ABC: Dragnet wasn't on for the same reason.

10:00, NBC: Boomtown. (season finale!) Joel searches for a missing newborn and at the same time gets investigated by a seedy Internal Affairs investigator who has a personal grudge against Joel. Seems that once upon a time his wife may or may not have been responsible for their son's death, when she took sleeping pills and the child suffered from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome while she slept. The autopsy report on the child has been missing, with Joel suspected in taking the report that may or may not prove his wife was negligent at the time. To make a long story short the report is soon found and it reveals that in fact, the baby had died of a brain aneurysm which could not have been prevented even if they were watching the baby around the clock, every hour of the day. While it's still sad that their baby had to die at all, it's nice to see this series end the season on a happy note of sorts, and not a cliffhanger. I just hope the series is picked up for next season though even if it isn't, this is a very fitting farewell. Large Crater

Monday

10:00, CBS: CSI: Miami. (repeat). Let's move on...

Tuesday

8:00, UPN: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Nothing new tonight just so more episodes of the series are offered during May sweeps. The good news: next week is a new episode, as will be every episode until the finale. The bad news: that amounts to a mere four shows left of the series.

9:00, FOX: 24 More stage-setting though with far much more intensity that the prior recent weeks. The big shocker is that Lynne --who turns out to be one of Palmer's most faithful aides-- falls to her near-death down the stairs. She's taken away via an ambulance in critical condition though I'd say she will not likely utter a peep for the remainder of the next five hours (or in other words, all remaining episodes this season). Meanwhile, the rednecks take Kate away to get money from her house which is bad news for them because Jack is on their trail so it's buh-bye to one of the rednecks while another is barricaded in a room. The bad news; the barricaded redneck is the jerk who possesses the chip that may be the sole way the country doesn't go to war against the wrong countries. To be continued next week...where the teaser promises to reveal this season's Big Bad behind all this. Oh yeah; Palmer may be voted out of office by his seedy council, who the Vice Prez apparently has in his pocket. Looks to be a very busy episode in one week. See you then... Large Crater

Wednesday

8:00, UPN : Enterprise Dr. Phlox is given a truly spectacular episode where he must treat a patient of a planet his race had been in a major war with, 300 years ago. So bitter is the animosity between their two planets that neither man has seen a member of their "enemy" race face-to-face in their entire lives. Since Phlox is a doctor and the patient is a scientist, however, they are able to come to terms with the fact that the prejudices they have for each other's peoples was the work of three-century-old propaganda, and they can learn to keep an open mind about one another. The big twist of this story is that Phlox's planet may have been the oppressors in this war, whose planet led to over 22 million deaths on the opposing planet. The debate these two scientist have as they come to terms with their prior prejudices, is among the best acting in John Billingsley's (Phlox's) career. Simply put, this was one of the best episodes of the season, if not the series itself so far.   Deep Impact

9:00, WB : Angel. All of the Angel team are broken away from the spell of this season's Big Bad, Jasmine, who is a demon with almost Siren-like hypnosis on all humans who get sight of her (even on television!). Trouble is, Conner is still affected, which isn't really a problem if Angel can finally smack him off the show, smack some sense into him, or heck, just smack him around period. Meanwhile, Cordelia's body is missing, who we learn was brain-washed by the then-unborn Jasmine for the past so many weeks, hence her evil antics at the time. Spoilers notwithstanding, looks like Jasmine will truly be defeated next week; a shock, only because next week is the second-last episode of the season. What will the finale reveal that forces the Big Bad to be defeated one episode early? Hmmm. Large Crater

Thursday

8:00, CBS : Survivor: Amazon (Alex leaves) Alex stupidly confesses to Rob that since nobody can divide the alliance between Heidi and Jenna, well, Alex would ally with them in the final four to oust Rob though hey, fourth place isn't that bad. This was stupid to say to Rob, who had already flip-flopped alliances three times by now, so why not once more? Alex is gone, and Rob is still there, and while that's good news if just because it means Christy and Butch are still in the game, it means Rob is in the game for a while longer as well. Talk about a guilty pleasure; what devious fun this season of Survivor is! Large Crater

8:00, NBC : Friends Rachel is still dealing with her developing feelings for Joey, which she should've thought about at the start of the season when she turned him down cold (and I mean COLD) though hey, she's never been very swift. The gang gets invited to a soap opera party hosted by Joey, where Rachel finally decides to tell Joey her feelings, just before seeing him kiss the one girl Ross was interested in. Will this bring Ross and Rachel closer, or will this schoolgirl crush of Rachel's be the series' seventh season cliffhanger?  Small Crater

9:00, CBS : CSI: Crime Scene Investigation The amusement of this episode is that it centers on the death of a standup comic on stage, so at least two real-life comics offer cameos, including Bobcat Goldthwait and Gilbert Gottfried. The tête-à-tête between Gottfried and Catherine when collecting DNA evidence is one of the best moments of TV all week. As for Bobcat, well, without giving too much away he offers one of his best acting performances. He's come a long way from being the voice of a stuffed bunny in Unhappily Ever After. Large Crater

10:00, CBS : Without a Trace. Another good episode tonight involves a missing person case of a boxer who had everything to lose by not showing up for his next fight...so where is he? This leads to a cover-up involving fixed fighting matches and a murder which the missing person is a suspect of. The finale was intriguing if only because it doesn't have the missing person put away in cuffs, even if in reality his life would be pretty much ruined. Let the show have a "happy" ending whenever possible, I always say. Large Crater

Friday

9:00, FOX : John Doe (season finale!) John finally catches up with the nefarious Phoenix group which may be the source of his powers and possibly his amnesia as well. If you missed it you missed one whale of a cliffhanger so stop reading if you'd rather not be spoiled; it's just too good to not type out for those who really missed it! For one, John learns that excess knowledge is only one asset of his superior brain matter; turns out he has latent mind powers as well, which lead him to other telepaths, including his possible long-lost love he barely remembers, Catherine. The best news is he saves Catherine and by the final shot they're back together. The bad news is while grasping Catherine for support, he catches a glimpse of the leader of the Phoenix group and the man behind it all...and it's his best friend all season, Digger. How's that for a cliffhanger? Please tell me this series is picked up by someone so we can see what happens as a result of all this! Large Crater
