What is Techtite TV?

Far from a recommendation of "What to Watch," these mini-reviews are all the shows I personally saw (or will see) in the present week. Sure, we all watch CNN, the evening news, and one or two of those "other" news shows, and yet how do we feel about the other shows we watch weekly? Here are my own mini-reviews, episode-to-episode.

Best Reason to Turn on TV This Week:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Simply a perfect finale for the series.

Biggest Disappointment This Week:

CSI Miami. In a week's worth of finales before the summer rut, this episode could've been better, especially when Horatio is all "I don't want to kill him that would be mean" when confronted with a murderer of innocent children. Give me a break.

 Quote of the Week:

"What about Anya...?"

"[slight pause[ She risked her life to save mine!"

"That's my girl...always doing the stupid thing!"

...Xander to Andrew, in one of the funnier pieces of dark comedy, in the truly well done series finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Saturday

11:30, NBC : Saturday Night Live was a repeat. Or not. I really don't care anymore until they hire some new comics.

Sunday

10:00, ABC: Dragnet It's nice to see the second of the two Dragnet men back (he was forced to take an absence from the show due to an injury off-set) as they tackle the latest mystery. A woman who's been missing six years is found in her car, and it ain't pretty. Neither is the resolution of this mystery, involving a whistle blower and an intriguing mix of trust-nobody shenanigans that lead in all directions. Overall, this was a good episode, though not one you'd want to see all over again if you knew the final result. Small Crater

Monday

9:45, CBS: CSI: Miami. In this, their 75-minute season one finale, Horatio arrives at a murder scene in a prison, only to witness at the same time several inmates hijacking a helicopter out of there. The how and why to this escape is complete cornball, so the real thrills here are in the aftermath. See, all the inmates just so happen to be criminals that the CSI Miami team put behind bars, earlier in this very season. Among these inmates is a man with a personal vendetta against Calleigh (Emily Procter), who soon has a personal vendetta of her own, when the killer succeeds in killing her best friend, who was his prosecuting attorney. The ending is a bit too "If we shoot to kill we'll be no better than the criminal" --especially when Horatio must save an innocent girl's life, all without "shooting to kill" her attacker-- yet the grit of the episode earlier saves the show from a thumbs-down. Small Crater

Tuesday

8:00, UPN: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (series finale!) In a finale whose only flaw was that it was peculiarly only one hour long (!?!?), Caleb becomes a zombie of sorts just so Buffy can kick his backside again...this time, as she cooly jests, "He had to split." Ouch. Angel returns to learn that Spike has a soul now, only to add a nice dose of dark humor to the finale, as he mopes about no longer being unique. As fans would've wanted it, the final battle (for the series, anyway) was full of Lord of the Rings style FX, so enjoyable that even the most stouthearted fan will accept the fact that kid sister Dawn gets to have the last line of the series. I could go on and on with this finale, though I think the coolest part was that, in the end, Buffy finally showed she'd grown up, by accepting the fact that she could possibly not be the only slayer in the world, ergo, Willow uses her magic to give all potentials the power of the slayer, thereby making the battle even easier to win. The bad news...? Anya dies --and if that's a spoiler to you, please shut up, because I'm typing this at the end of the week and it's all over the news by now-- though actress Emma Caulfield apparently wanted her departure to be memorable, so...it was. Deep Impact

9:00, FOX: 24 (season finale!) Some fans are a bit peeved that few answers have been revealed. However, to be fair, the ending was a cliffhanger, and a very cool one, leading to the return of the "one that got away" last season, who could be one of the bigger targets next season. As for this season, we have that guy on a boat whose identity is still up in arms, Nina's whereabouts still unanswered, Jack's romance with Cate left up in the air (well, who expected them to fall in love in a mere 24 hours, anyway?), and Cate's freakish kid sister encaged in a clear cell a la Hannibal Lecter. It looks to be a promising season three. Too bad this was just season two. However, if only because of that never-saw-it-coming finale, this episode just barely deserves a Deep Impact.

Wednesday

8:00, UPN : Enterprise (season finale) The whole series needs a revamp to regain fans, and this cliffhanger alludes to one for the next season. To make a long story short, the Enterprise is now a ship outfitted for battle, to find a way to defeat a new enemy. This means photon torpedoes, plus a security crew on the ship who sound a bit like "red shirts" and may mean tenser missions than just "Hi how are you we're just visiting." We don't see the red shirts just yet though we do get a glimpse of the "NX-02" --Enterprise's upcoming sister ship-- which alludes to fellow ships in the next season. Meanwhile, Trip is highly emotional due to his family being within the blast that initially hit Earth. If this means that a Trek series finally has a character like Dr. McCoy, I'm all for it. Oh, and T'Pol is officially a renegade from Vulcan High Command. Perfect. Deep Impact

Thursday

8:00, CBS : Survivor: Amazon ended last week. Actually, that's a good thing. Trust me.

8:00, NBC : Friends ended last week, too. Bummer.

9:00, CBS : CSI: Crime Scene Investigation Ditto.

10:00, CBS : Without a Trace. Yep, summer repeat season already...

Friday

After the season finales of Stargate SG-1 and John Doe, there really isn't anything on Fridays. Too bad...
