Jazz Jackrabbit

(Epic Megagames, 1994)

Four Years before the 3D smash hit Unreal, there was Jazz Jackrabbit; a similar Epic Megagames triumph, in 2D scrollers. The hero is, of course, Jazz the Jackrabbit (imagine a friendlier "killer rabbit" from Monty Python and the Holy Grail). He travels from planet to planet to reach a villainous alien turtle bent on world destruction. Secret areas and power ups add to the challenging fun. The best elements, however, are the bonus levels, which are all in 3D! These levels involve a racetrack that Jazz has to race through in a certain time limit, for bonus points galore. Even the shareware "free levels" of this game are excellent, including a special Christmas edition level which had enemies on skis! Cute game series...

Rating : Large Crater.
