Loom
(LucasFilm Games, 1990)
A unique game concept from Lucas' game design team made excellent
use of sound cards in PCs, which were in their infancy at the
time. The story revolves around the land called Loom, where magicians
"loom" magic through the fabric of reality, via musical
notes. In short time, you learn which musical note combinations
lead to what spells, then use those spells to solve various amusing
puzzles. The original game came free with an audio cassette,
giving an audio prologue explaining the nature of the game's
background story. This audio prologue, with fantastic music and
voice acting, was reason enough to buy the game. The game itself
was even better. Rating of the game goes down a notch because
of a peculiar ending choice, though it was still fun.
