The Fool's Errand

(Cliff Johnson, 1987, Macintosh)
Yes, as a matter of fact, the copyright of this
game is not attributed to a game company, though rather the game's
designer himself, Cliff Johnson. I suppose when you make a puzzle
game this unique, you want to keep the ownership of the game
all to yourself! While this was a game that (as far as I know)
was exclusive to Macintosh, in a day when nearly all Macintoshes
were Black & White graphics only, the game was able to deliver
on many fun game elements. It used artistic renditions of cards
from a tarot deck, to tell an amusing story of a "fool's
errand." Meanwhile, to have the story progress, you had
to help the fool solve various puzzles. Each puzzle, in turn,
involves the tarot deck of cards, and yet each was far more unique
than just a bunch of card tricks. The evolving story was so amusing,
the game even gave the option to print out this short story,
upon completing the game! It's innovative puzzle-game concepts
like this that made this a prominent member of Techtite's list
of Top 50 Multimedia
Classics!
