Quest for Glory I: So You Want To Be A Hero?

(Sierra On-Line, 1991)

This was the 256 color remake of the classic game, Hero's Quest. On the plus side, graphics were indeed superior, and it was fitting to see most fave characters in full color. However, it was equally flawed on several levels. This remake used Sierra's critically aflamed icon interface, making all the formerly challenging puzzles into a point-and-click bore. Worst of all, the fantastic finale was changed completely, providing merley a stupid (without music, no less) royal court, depicting the whole game design team. Why would I want to see these guys? After all, these are the people who took away the original, flawless finale, and that finale's awesome victory music, just to show themselves in an uninspired, one-screen bore. Nerds!

Rating : Near Miss.
