Star Wars Episode 1 : The Phantom Menace
[Adventure Game]
(LucasArts, 1999)
Star Wars games by LucasArts are often hit and miss; very
very good, or pretty bad. Whether you feel this game was
the former or the latter, it was hardly the fault of LucasArts'
game design team. After all, this game is based so closely to
the movie, the true question here is whether you liked the
movie or not. If Jar-Jar Binks was intolerable to you, then
you're bound to despise a whole game level devoted to
finding him (no, you can't just lose him for good). One other
flaw is not being able to play as Darth Maul, which, cruel as
it may sound, would be a way-cool game option (double edged light
saber!). However, you do get to play alternate levels
as Amidala, Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan, and even Captain Panaka. Given
this diversity in gameplay, as well as an admirable level of
challenge, I personally liked this game much more than I hated
it; a marginal thumbs up...
